THE HUNGER GAMES

I haven't posted anything on my blog recently.  This is because I haven't had anything important to talk about.  However, I do have something important to talk about now.  The Hunger Games.  I actually purchased the first book in this trilogy over a year ago, and I've just neglected to read it all this time.  It wasn't until I saw the movie a couple of weeks ago that I decided to finally read it.  I'm addicted to this series now.  The movie was phenomenal.  You should definitely go see the movie if you haven't already.  The books are amazing as well.  I just couldn't stop reading after I picked up the first one.  I finished reading the trilogy in about a week.  I kind of feel lost now.  I can't move on to other books, movies, video games, anything.  I'm stuck on The Hunger Games because it's really that awesome.  Check out a trailer for the movie below.

NINTENDO 3DS AND SUPER MARIO 3D LAND

It's been about a month since my last post.  I suppose I've just been lazy lately.  I just recently purchased a Nintendo 3DS a few days ago and I couldn't be happier with it.  I also purchased Super Mario 3D Land for my first 3DS game.  Super Mario 3D Land is extremely fun.  It really takes advantage of the 3D effect that the 3DS offers, and it looks amazing.  I'm almost 100% finished with the game, and I can't wait to pick up another.  The 3DS eShop has a killer lineup; I'm probably going to purchase either Pushmo, Sakura Samurai: Art of the Sword, Dillon's Rolling Western, or Mighty Switch Force next.

WAKFU OPEN BETA

In my last post I said that I would be playing through Skyward Sword.  Well, I don't think this is going to happen.  I just can't find it in me to play the game.  Maybe another time in the future, but not right now.

Instead, I've been playing an MMORPG called Wakfu.  It's currently in open beta so anyone can play it right now for free.  I do think there will be a subscription fee when it goes live though.  It's a tactical MMORPG.  It plays similar to games such as Final Fantasy Tactics, Tactics Ogre, Disgaea, etc.  It looks similar as well.  The artwork is cartoony and silly, but it's beautiful.  The music is great too.  There are 14 classes to choose from.  The features are pretty standard as far as MMORPGs go;  you can run dungeons with your friends, gather and craft, PvP, join or create a guild, etc.  There are some features that stand out though.  There are politics within each server;  anyone can run for governor of a nation and other people can vote for who becomes the governor.  Also, you can have your own house that you can decorate as you see fit.  Other people can visit your house as well.  There's also an ecosystem.  If things are out of balance in a zone's ecosystem then you won't receive certain buffs.  An example would be having too few or too many of a certain monster in a zone.  Wakfu is a pretty great game so far so check it out!

SKYWARD SWORD

I'm a huge fan of The Legend of Zelda series.  I've finished nine of them out of the fifteen that exist.  With that being said, I'm not really a fan of Skyward Sword.  I haven't played through it yet.  I can't stand the motion controls.  I don't like Fi talking to me every thirty seconds.  I don't like Fi and the other NPCs holding my hand through the game.  I don't like a lot of things about this game.  I do think that the artwork and music are beautiful though.  I'm going to look past all of the things that I don't like and play it anyway.  I'm probably going to start from the very beginning today.  I'll post an update on my opinion of the game after I've actually finished it.  Should be in a week or two.

TINY TOWER

Tiny Tower is a neat game for iOS and Android devices.  I play it on my Android phone.  You're given a tower and it's your job to manage it.  You can build new floors and put different kinds of establishments (food, service, recreation, retail, or creative) on those floors.  You can also build residential floors.  Bitzens (the citizens of the Tiny Tower world) will move into your residential floors.  You can then give these Bitizens jobs at the different establishments in your tower.  The idea is to just keep making money and upgrading your tower as much as you can.  There's more to it that I'm leaving out, but that's the gist of it.  It's a free game so you should definitely check it out.

SHIVER

I found Lucy Rose on the WLT (watchlistentell) YouTube channel recently.  Here's another one of her songs.  She's amazing.  Can't wait for an album.

LIMBO

I finally completed every achievement for Bastion on Steam today.  I decided to play LIMBO next.  I just finished my play through about ten minutes ago.  It's a neat little platformer with some decent puzzles to solve.  The atmosphere of the game is very dark and depressing.  The artwork is completely grayscale and the music sounds very eerie.  You get this overwhelming sense of being alone in the world.  Your character is a little boy and I believe that you're searching for your sister.  The story is very open to interpretation.  There's really no dialogue, narration, text, etc. to tell you what's going on.  I'm not even sure if the ending I saw was happy or sad.  I kind of like the mysteriousness though.  It costs ten US dollars on Steam.  I personally wouldn't pay that much for it.  (I got it for free during the Steam event over the holidays.)  But it's definitely a neat little game to play.

BASTION

I bought Bastion on Steam when it was on sale for the holidays.  I finished it once on Normal, and I'm just about done with playing it again on New Game Plus.  The gameplay itself is pretty generic and we've all seen it done before.  But the artwork is beautiful, the music is amazing, and the story is pretty good too.  Check this game out if you've got the money to spend.  It's fifteen US dollars on Steam.  Below is a song from the game.  (It won "Best Song in a Game" at the VGAs.)

DOWN

This song is from the Static Anonymity EP that Metric released in 2001.  Metric is my favorite band and I think it's pretty neat to listen to their older music.
